The 2-days conference will investigate the role of peer review and open access in university knowledge dissemination and evaluation. Day 1 will address peer review, with a particular attention to its role in ensuring quality and efficiency of knowledge dissemination and evaluation. Day 2 will address open access in knowledge dissemination, with a particular focus on potentials and implications of new ways to disseminate knowledge for evaluating the quality of research. The academic discussions on peer review and open access will be guided, locally grounded, and summarised by an accompanying panel of university managers from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) responsible for handling the knowledge landscapes of their university on a daily basis. The conference is co-sponsored by the two EU COST Actions “New Frontiers of Peer Review” PEERE, www.peere.org and “Analyzing the Dynamics of Information and Knowledge Landscapes” KNOWeSCAPE, www.knowescape.org.
