Information Security – Electronic Signatures – Data protection
2001 Autumn Conference:
21.–23.11.2001, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler
The annual Autumn Conference was held from 21st to 23rd November 2001 in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler at the SETA Hotel. The symposium was organised by the Europäische Akademie and supported by the Multimedia Support Center GmbH (msc). Speakers from universities, research institutions and industry presented high-quality papers during the three days of the conference, covering a wide range of aspects related to the information society. In particular, they concentrated upon the key issues of information security, electronic signatures and data protection.
Workshop: Electronic Signatures
The Europäische Akademie offered a one-day workshop on electronic signatures which included principle elements, concepts and applications. For many organisations and companies, the completion of an internet presentation project is only the first step towards a successful e-commerce platform. However, the step from a pure web-presentation to the full commercial potential of an electronic marketplace with virtual payment is a big one, often requiring additional investment and expertise. Therefore, a meaningful electronic signature can boost this business, as the electronic signature allows people to electronically sign any electronic document in a legally-valid and enforceable manner.
The workshop was aimed at the following groups of people:
companies that plan to adopt electronic signatures at present or in the future,
the representatives of administrative bodies and units that wish to provide services for citizens,
management consultants involved in shaping the development of electronic signatures.
Congress: Security and Autonomy in the Information Society
Speech is the most natural means of communication between people. As a leading European technology assessment institution, the Europäische Akademie brought together key speakers and experts from science and industry to discuss the core issues and solutions that are making a huge impact on security and autonomy in the information society. In particular, the congress covered the important topics of information security and data protection. A successful congress includes more than a strong programme, therefore the unique session “Zwiegespräch”, offering the opportunity to ask questions and conduct an informal, leisurely exchange of ideas about the main issues in the field of information society set the scene for the hospitality evening.
The congress was designed for representatives from:
universities, research institutions and IT-concerned industry,
companies involved in developing and processing IT equipment (software and hardware manufacturers, service providers), as well as
scientists dealing with IT issues from various disciplines (legal science, economics, the political and social sciences, and technology),
management consultants in the field of e-business,
representatives of administrative bodies and units regulating or supporting IT technology and decision-makers from the political sphere (executive, legislative),
representatives of the general public (NGOs) and
journalists involved in IT subject matter.
