Intellectual Property and Copyright in the Age of Multimedia – Copyright Law, Online
25.2.1999
Digital information and communication technologies make it easier for “pirates” to copy and distribute copyright-reserved documents (word, image, and sound). Furthermore, “multimedia works” with their manifold on and offline usage and digital IT create new forms of organisation in the value chain. Thus, they turn into sought-after new objects for both pirates and commercial users. This current reorganisation process raises questions like: Do multimedia works necessitate a new type of work? Is the digital use of creative works a new kind of use? Ultimately, copyright law is particularly significant for people working in creative areas since it regulates the remuneration for the digital use of copyrighted work. To protect intellectual property in this field is both a technical and a cultural task.
The meeting was co-hosted by the IG-Medien trade union.
