Gethmann appointed member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering

Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, 08 May 2008. – Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. Carl Friedrich Gethmann, director of the Europäische Akademie, has been appointed a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering. The General Assembly of the German Academy of Science and Engineering, acatech, thus endorsed the board of directors’ recommendation. 

As a member of acatech, which considers itself a flexible working academy, Gethmann will focus on the science of technology and interdisciplinary issues. Furthermore, to his work in the topical networks, which integrate the natural sciences with the humanities and social sciences, he will bring his experience as, amongst others, director of the Europäische Akademie and current president of the German Society of Philosophy (DGPhil). Acatech is concerned with such issues as health technology, energy and the environment, mobility and education, and employment.  

Gethmann will be presented with the letter of appointment this October in Berlin. The appointment will allow for a closer co-operation between acatech and the Europäische Akademie.
