The Europäische Akademie

The Europäische Akademie (European Academy of Technology Assessment in Germany) specialises in the scientific study and assessment of the consequences and impacts of scientific and technological advances on individuals, society and the natural environment, in order to provide policy advice for decision-makers. The think-tank also produces cutting-edge research to analyse how to create innovation systems with optimally structured university-industry-government networks, with the objective to meet social, economic, and sustainability demands. The EA-Lab at the Europäische Akademie will experimentally test policy scenarios before they are implemented, combining interdisciplinary empirical research from humanities and the social sciences on key issues for technology assessment and innovation performance, with computational methods such as network analysis, agent-based modelling and social simulation (eHumanities). This research will inform policymakers and business managers when facing the economic, social and political challenges presented by developments in science, technology and innovation. The Akademie was established as a non-profit corporation in 1996 by the Federal German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
