Organisation/Boards

The Europäische Akademie zur Erforschung von Folgen wissenschaftlich-technischer Entwicklungen gGmbH (European academy for the study of the consequences of scientific and technological advance) was created as a non-profit corporation with limited liability in 1996.

Since its foundation the academy is substantially funded by its partners, the Federal German state of Rhineland-Palatinate (Bundesland Rheinland-Pfalz) and the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V., DLR). In addition, the academy successfully fundraises for its project work. Third party money comes from a variety of private and public funding bodies.

The academy's Director and Managing Director is Prof. Dr. Petra Ahrweiler. The Deputy Directors are PD Dr. Felix Thiele and Dr. Stephan Lingner.

The Partners´ Assembly has formed a Managing Committee to which two representatives of the partners belong. The partners also nominated a Scientific Advisory Board which supports the academy in elaborating its scientific goals and projects and in evaluating research results. The members of the different working groups form the Council of the academy which is a forum for scientific exchange on their activities.
