In cooperation with three BMBF-funded projects for renewable energies, Dr. André Schaffrin, coordinator of the EA project EnAHRgie, presented results at international conference "Breaking the Rules! Energy Transitions as Social Innovations" of the Leibniz Research Alliance Energy Transition in the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) on 14 June 2017. The lecture on the development of regional energy strategies in transdisciplinary teams was held and drafted in collaboration with Bärbel Keysselitz from RWTH Aachen University and the project regional dialogue for energy transition (render) and Dr. Anne von Streit from the LMU Munich, head of the project Innovations for a sustainable land and energy management on a regional level (INOLA). The lecture focused on the potentials and challenges for the promotion of social energy innovations. The presentation of the three speakers dealt in particular with the interaction of the regional context and broader framework conditions with the design of the project group.
The two-day conference invited international scholars to discuss social innovations in the context of energy transitions, to reflect their meaning for educational and participatory practices, and to spark a debate about the social aspects inherent in these innovations.
The Leibniz Research Alliance “Energy Transition” addresses these challenges with an interdisciplinary research approach that combines expertise from the humanities, the natural and the engineering sciences.
