Dr. Bert Droste-Franke, head of the department energy, and Dr. Markus Voge, head of EA-Lab, held a full-day seminar on methods for young scientists at the University of Bremen on 28 September. Using EA Lab as an example, the seminar dealt with the question of how to use a laboratory environment in political decision-making.
Dr. Droste-Franke presented the conceptual foundation and example applications of the EA Lab. He spoke about the EA Lab as an instrument, its technical environment, application examples and specific challenges of scientific advice for robust policy decisions.
Dr. Voge then explained the methodological basics of data analysis. He visualized data interactively and presented finished example tools and possible programming tasks. In addition to basic technical elements of the EA Lab, the read-in of example data, a first interactive app and a possible enhancement of this app were topics.
Towards the end of the methodology seminar, the two speakers presented the advanced technical elements of the EA Lab for the analysis and evaluation of energy concepts; also to give an example of how the EA Lab is currently used for the visualization of research, for example in the context of the EnAHRgie project. Finally, there was a lively discussion about the possibilities of interactive data visualization and the use of a finished example tool to support policy decisions.
